We only had 70 square meters to provide a young family with a space for their kids to play and a seating area for entertaining. I used a wooden horizontal trellis to cover unsightly wall and unite the background. That made the garden look bigger. Sharing a hedge with the neighbours is also a good space saving trick. Plants were chosen for their good structure, long flowering season and graceful demise. There is part of the garden that is in full sun and part of it is shaded – this allowed me to use a good range of plants, but the colour palette is limited, so that the garden would not look too busy. As the seasons progress, there is always something to look at while in the garden or from inside the house.
