This is quite a large garden, but at the moment only the front garden, meditation garden and the terrace border are finished. The house is made of red cedar wood and its style is reflected in the garden as well. I have used both conifers and deciduous trees and shrubs, with a lot of underplanting. In the front garden, we created a couple of little sweeping hillocks planted with witch hazels, dwarf pines, heathers, grasses, hellebores and low wild-looking roses. Along the side of the house, away from the main buzz, there is a meditation garden – a grove of ornamental cherries underplanted by hakonechloa grass and spring anemones. The meditation circle is sunk into the ground for more privacy. The generous size of the main terrace allowed us to plant two amelanchiers underplanted with perennials and grasses. The size of the small trees offsets the bulk of the house quite nicely I think.
